Cast Method

Steps involved in the manufacture of jewellery using the techniques of casting are :

1. Make the Original Model and the Rubber Model.
  • Provide the metallic Original Model ( generally, of gold or rhodium plated silver).
  • Pack a Mold Frame with silicon rubber burying the Original Model in the center.
  • Vulcanize the Mold Frame to make the Rubber Mold using a Vulcanizer.
  • Cut the Rubber Mold after vulcanization and separate it into two halves with mold knife, taking out the Original Model.
  • One set of Rubber Mold can produce thousands of Wax Patterns using Vacuum Wax Injection System.
2. Make the Flask(Mold).
  • Attach sprues to the Wax Pattern feed lines for the molten metal.
  • Eventually make a Wax Tree.
  • Enclose the Wax Tree in a Flask. Pour the investment down the side of the Flask to form a Mold.
  • Homogenized slurry obtained by proper mixing with correct water-powder ratio is very important to let slurry flow into fine details.
  • Place the flask under the Bell Jar of Vacuum Investing Machine to remove trapped air.
  • Allow the investment to dry. Then, place the Flask in Rotating Burnout Furnace RBFwith its sprue opening down to make the wax melt and drip out of the Mold, and to burnout the Flask.
3. Set the Flask and carry out casting.
  • Withdraw the Flask (Mold) from the Furnace and set it in Vacuum Pressure Casting Machine VPC for Gold/Silver, or Vacuum Centrifugal Casting Machine VCC for Platinum.
    Then, carry out casting.
  • Most important, in this casting, is to use evacuation and suction, and furthermore to use pressurization (in the case of Gold/Silver) or centrifugal force (in the case of Platinum), so that the mold cavity is filled with molten metal, thus getting sharpest details.
    Also very important is the temperature regulation in accordance with the most suitable melting point of the alloy which varies by each alloy.
4. Finishing and Polishing.
  • When the molten metal is completely solidified, take the casting out of the Flask by breaking investment. Or, throw the Flask into a bucket of cold water to roughly remove the investment around the casting.
  • Using Water-Jet, thoroughly remove the residue of investment adhered to the area of fine details.
  • Finish each casting with File and polish it using Polishing Equipment.
